Andrea Bocelli
The Bocelli family has peasant origins. In the eighteenth century the Bocellis were sharecroppers at the Spedaletto farm (between Lajatico and Volterra), owned by the Corsini princes. On 21 March 1831, giving up his savings, Gaspero Bocelli freed himself from a colonist and became a small landowner, acquiring Podere Poggioncino for the sum of 1000 scudi.

The name of the firstborn of the Bocelli family, for seven generations, begins with "A". Like Anselmo, son of Gaspero, who, on 12 January 1867, for the price of 4,704 lire, bought two hectares of land with buildings (one of which, already used as a tavern) along the current Via Volterrana; like his great-great-grandfather Antonio, like his son Anselmo, like his grandfather Alcide, electromechanical expert, inventor; like Alessandro, who in addition to his eldest son, Andrea (1958), also assigns the first letter of the alphabet to Alberto (1961) ... And the tradition continues: with Amos, Andrea's eldest, with Alessio, Alberto's eldest.

Alcide, a "boy of '99" (as those born in the last year of the nineteenth century were called, forced - little more than adolescents - to take up arms in the first world conflict), invents the applications of the internal combustion engine for some tools in agriculture, and it is said that he then sold the patent to an important company. That particular talent saves his life, because thanks to his skills, instead of at the front, he is destined to repair aircraft in times of war.
